Accessibility Statement

We are committed to making Online Exams accessible and usable for everyone, including people with disabilities.

Last updated: April 2026

Our Commitment

Online Exams strives to ensure that our platform is accessible to all users, regardless of ability. We are working towards conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA level, and we continuously improve the user experience for everyone.

We recognise that accessibility is an ongoing effort. As we develop new features and improve existing ones, accessibility is a key consideration in our design and development process.

What We're Doing

  • Semantic HTML structure with proper headings, landmarks, and ARIA labels throughout the platform
  • Keyboard navigation support — all interactive elements can be reached and operated without a mouse
  • Sufficient colour contrast ratios between text and backgrounds across the interface
  • Clear, descriptive labels for form inputs, buttons, and interactive controls
  • Responsive design that adapts to different screen sizes and zoom levels
  • Focus indicators that make it clear which element is currently selected when navigating by keyboard
  • Alternative text for meaningful images and icons
  • Error messages that clearly identify what went wrong and how to fix it

Exam Accommodations

We understand that some students require accommodations during exams. The platform supports configurable exam settings that institutions can use to provide accommodations, such as:

  • Extended time for individual students as configured by the institution
  • Clear, readable question layouts that work with screen readers
  • High-contrast interface elements for users with visual impairments
  • Large click targets and spacing for users with motor impairments

If you require specific accommodations that are not currently supported, please contact your institution's administrator or reach out to us directly.

Known Limitations

While we work towards full accessibility, some areas of the platform may have limitations:

  • Some complex exam question formats may not be fully optimised for screen readers yet
  • Browser lockdown security features during exams may interfere with certain assistive technologies
  • PDF exports and reports may have limited accessibility formatting

We are actively working to address these limitations and welcome feedback on how we can improve.
